When to get help

Pause here

Ask a pharmacist or clinician to check a new or persistent nail change before choosing treatment. Pain, swelling around the nail, spread to several nails, diabetes, weakened immunity, pregnancy, breastfeeding or age under 18 needs clinician review. A new or changing dark band, darker skin around a nail, a nail that splits down the middle or a new bump beneath a nail needs a prompt in-person skin examination.
